Vipraj Nigam is turning heads and deliveries for Delhi Capitals

A country which celebrates cricket as a religion, cricketing prodigies emerge from every corner. Vipraj Nigam, the 20-year-old right-arm leg-spin bowler, has created a name for himself. Born on July 28, 2004, in Uttar Pradesh, Nigam’s cricketing journey isn’t about overnight fame but of persistence, hard work and patience to seize the moment.

During the 2024-25 season of the Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Nigam gained national recognition for his impressive playing style. He represented Uttar Pradesh and delivered a classy all-round performance against Andhra Pradesh in the match. He managed to take two wickets by just giving 20 runs and also scored an astounding total of 27 off just 8 deliveries, snatching victory from the jaws of defeat. His clutch finish not only led to his team’s victory but also gained him the golden ticket to the Indian Premier League.

Delhi Capitals (DC) eyed the young gun at the 2025 IPL auction and bought Nigam for ₹50 lakh. Nigam made sure to meet the expectations of DC management. Virat Kohli, India’s run machine, was made to go back to the pavilion after being dismissed by Vipraj Nigam. Kohli’s wicket made Nigam a national sensation.

Currently, Nigam has played 15 T20 matches across various formats, including domestic leagues and the IPL. In these matches, he has taken 15 wickets at an average of 24.93 and an economy rate of 7.45. His best bowling figures are 2/18. His control of the ball, flight and ability to deceive one of the most skilled batters in the air have drawn comparisons to legendary spinners to ever exist. During his time off the pitch, Nigam remained grounded and focused on fitness, honing his ball variation skills, and interacted with senior players to further enhance his game.

Vipraj Nigam, through his game in the IPL, has proved himself to be a formidable player for the opposing team. The 20-year-old has positioned himself as India’s next spin sensation and surely a spinner to look out for when you’re batting on the pitch.
