South Africa beat England by 7 wickets, Dussen and Klaasen hit half-centuries

With the help of half-century innings from Heinrich Klaasen and Rassie van der Dussen, South Africa beat England by seven wickets in the Group B match of the Champions Trophy. Thus, South Africa reached the semi-finals by finishing at the top of the group. Australia was the second team to reach the semi-finals from Group B. On the other hand, England suffered defeats in all three of its group-stage matches and was eliminated from the tournament without winning a single match.

England, which had already been eliminated from the tournament, had only one chance to salvage its honor. This was an emotional match, especially for the team’s captain, Jos Buttler. A day earlier, he had announced his decision to step down as England’s captain. In such a situation, Buttler must have thought that he and the team would bid farewell to the tournament with a strong performance. However, this did not happen. Batting first, England collapsed for just 179 runs.

South Africa secured the top position in the Group B points table with a total of 5 points from three matches, having won 2 games and one ending without a result. Meanwhile, Australia claimed the second spot with four points from their three matches, managing one victory while the other two games were abandoned without a result.

For England, Jofra Archer took 2 wickets, while Adil Rashid took 1 wicket. For England, Phil Salt scored 8 and Ben Duckett scored 24 runs, while Jamie Smith failed to open his account. Joe Root scored 37, Harry Brook 19, Jos Buttler 21, Liam Livingstone 9, Jamie Overton 11, Jofra Archer 25, Adil Rashid 2, and Shakib Mahmood remained unbeaten on 5 runs. For South Africa, Marco Jansen and Wiaan Mulder took three wickets each. Keshav Maharaj took 2 wickets, while Lungi Ngidi and Kagiso Rabada took one wicket each.
