Coldplay sets record for largest live concert held in India

The British band Coldplay concluded their most anticipated India Tour on January 26 on Monday. The concert is reported to be one of the largest musical events that happened in India. The event witnessed a staggering crowd of 1,34,000 fans, which is considered as the highest number of tickets sold for a concert.

Chris Martin, lead singer of the band performed five shows in India as part of their India tour. Among the five show first three were held in Mumbai while Ahmedabad hosted the concluding two events.

The event broke records for the largest ticketed concert to be held in India. Previously, Diljit Dosanjh and Justin Beiber one of the most popular international music singers held the record for most successful concerts with a crowd of 50,000 attending the concert. This wasn’t just India’s biggest concert but for the band as well. Coldplay’s India tour surpassed their Sydney gig which attracted 83,000 fans.

Coldplay concert in Ahmedabad

The Narendra Modi Stadium is India’s biggest stadium, choosing this stadium as the venue for the concert worked in the band’s favour to accommodate large crowds. The stadium has a seating capacity of over a lakh in the stands. While the concert allowed people to stand on the ground as well which isn’t possible during a cricket game. Due to this advantage the band was able to entertain a large crown of nearly 1.4 lakh people.

Coldplay’s Ahmedabad was also streamed live on Disney+Hotstar in India. The event is part of Coldplay’s Music of the Spheres World Tour. Many prominent celebrities attended the concert including Shreya Ghoshal, Kajal Aggarwal, Navya Nanda Naveli. Meanwhile, industrialist Anand Mahindra and India Cricketer Jasprit Bumrah were also spotted attending the concert.

The concert was one of the most talked about live entertainment events when the announcement was made by Coldplay. It garnered a lot of social media attention and set world record for the biggest musical event held in India.
