India’s defeat in BGT 2024-25: Who is responsible?

With the defeat in the Border Gavaskar Trophy, the Indian cricket team was out of the final of the World Test Championship. The BGT Trophy performance of the Indian team, ranked in the top three in the ICC rankings, left millions of Indian cricket fans in splits. This defeat changed the audit profile of the history of cricket.

For the first time since 1997, Australia won a series after trailing 0-1.

In the 5th Test, Indian batsmen played only 673 balls, which was India’s worst performance since 1981.

Rohit Sharma scored only 31 runs in this entire series; Rohit left Mahendra Singh Dhoni behind in terms of scoring the least runs as a captain. During the Test series on the Australia tour in 2011, Dhoni scored a total of 96 runs with an average of 24.00.

REASON TO DEFEAT

Disappointing performance of star players: In this match, star players like Rohit, Virat, and Shubman Gill disappointed. While Rohit scored only 31 runs in the entire series, Kohli also scored only 190 runs. Even a star batsman like Gill could not do much; he scored only 93 runs in three test matches.

Troubled by the pitch: There is a lot of spin and bounce on Indian pitches, but Indian batsmen failed on the pitch that has high bounce in Australia. Many batsmen escaped injury on bounce. Rishabh Pant was very badly injured. This is challenging for Indian batsmen. Proved. Despite it being a seamer-friendly pitch, the Kangaroos overpowered us. The batting coach and Support staff did not pay attention to the technical loophole.

Jasprit Bumrah left alone: Jasprit Bumrah made the world record of taking the most wickets in a single foreign tour by taking 32 wickets in the series. The right-arm pacer was also named Player of the Series. But Bumrah kept fighting alone; he did not get support from anyone from the other end. Bumrah’s absence showed what India was missing on the final day of the series, even though Australia had the upper hand. Glenn McGrath had even said later that if Bumrah had not taken 32 wickets, the margin of victory or defeat would have been greater.

Gautam Gambhir’s coaching: Indian coach Gautam Gambhir tactics proved to be useless as India suffered this defeat. His usefulness is becoming huge for the team. There were some media reports that he was not getting along with the senior players of Team India. Along with this, many players remained divided into their own groups. Under his coaching, India has suffered defeats against Sri Lanka and New Zealand. In such a situation, questions are being raised on them too.

Mutual discord: Meanwhile, another news came out. It was claimed that the Indian team has been ‘divided into two groups.’. It was said that the team did not even celebrate together after the victory in the first Test in Perth. Not only this, the team that went on the Australia tour has not even had a team dinner together even once. India had won in Perth. In the first match of the series, India won by 295 runs under the captaincy of Jasprit Bumrah. But the Indian team reportedly decided not to celebrate the historic victory together.

Anyway, whatever the reasons. India suffered huge losses due to the defeat of this series. On one hand, India lost the series against Australia after a decade; on the other hand, its claim to the final of the World Test Championship also ended. The Indian team has completely gone into T-20 mode.

There is a monopoly of star players. Apart from IPL, players should also play domestic cricket. Also, team selectors should also give opportunities to new players.
