MI edge past RCB in a thrilling WPL encounter at the Chinnaswamy

The Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 saw a thrilling match between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Mumbai Indians (MI) at the legendary M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore, on February 21. In a match full of power-packed performances, MI won, outshining RCB in a high-intensity match.

A clash of the Titans

Both teams, known for their aggressive approach and star-studded lineups, delivered an entertaining contest that kept fans on the edge of their seats. RCB, playing on home turf, was eager to secure a win, while MI looked determined to continue its dominance in the tournament.

Ellyse Perry’s Blazing Knock Not Enough

After being put to bat first, RCB posted a competitive total, largely thanks to an exceptional innings from Ellyse Perry. The Australian all-rounder was in sublime touch, smashing 81 runs off just 43 balls. Her powerful strokes and calculated aggression helped RCB recover from early setbacks.

However, despite her heroics, MI’s disciplined bowling attack ensured that RCB couldn’t breach the total. Georgia Wareham contributed significantly with the ball for RCB, claiming three crucial wickets while conceding only 21 runs. Her spell created pressure on MI’s batters, giving RCB hopes of defending their total.

The chase of the Mumbaikars

In response, MI’s batting lineup showed resilience, with skipper Harmanpreet Kaur leading from the front. She played a captain’s knock, scoring a crucial 50 off 38 balls, anchoring the chase when wickets fell at key moments. Amanjot Kaur played the perfect finisher’s role, scoring an unbeaten 34 off 27 balls, her composed approach under pressure ensured MI crossed the finish line with balls to spare. Despite some disciplined bowling efforts from RCB, MI’s experience in high-pressure chases helped them seal a hard-fought victory.

Can RCB make a comeback?

This victory has solidified Mumbai Indians’ position in the WPL table, with RCB seeking a comeback in their next matches. Even though RCB is still at the top, the competition remains fierce as the WPL continues to feature the best of women’s cricket. As the matches unfold, cricket enthusiasts can expect more action-packed encounters, intense rivalries, and individual brilliance that make the league one of the most exciting tournaments in women’s cricket.
