Sai Sudharsan, at just 23, is turning heads in this IPL season with both numbers and maturity beyond his age. During the Gujarat Titans match against the Rajasthan Royals, Sudharsan hit three consecutive boundaries, which included two boundaries and one six, earning praise for his high-scoring techniques.
The left-hand batter, Sai Sudharsan belongs to Tamil Nadu. Sudharsan has amazed spectators with his calm demeanour while batting on the pitch and also made records in both domestic and international cricket formats.
He began his cricketing career while playing for the Tamil Nadu state team, where his impressive strokes and ability to play under pressure caught the attention of selectors. Gujarat Titans (GT) offered him a contract in the IPL 2022 season, thus marking his arrival with a steady debut. He scored 35 runs off 30 balls in his debut match against Punjab Kings, which made him a significant batter in GT’s lineup thereafter.
Sudharsan displayed his prowess in the 2024 season of the IPL. He became the fastest Indian to score 1,000 runs in the IPL, scoring these runs in just 25 innings. He surpassed legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and Ruturaj Gaikwad after achieving this milestone. He also broke Hardik Pandya’s record streak for scoring 23 consecutive double-digit scores. This consistency made him GT’s go-to batter in under-pressure matches.
Sudharsan played his debut One Day International (ODI) match for India against South Africa during the ongoing bilateral series between the two countries in 2023. He scored 127 runs in just three matches, scoring two consecutive fifties, surpassing Navjot Singh Sidhu’s record for scoring two consecutive fifties in a debut ODI series.
Sudharsan is the top run scorer in the current season of the IPL 2025. He has scored 417 runs in eight matches, blending smart shot selection with timely aggression.
With form and temperament on his side, Sudharsan is quickly becoming a strong contender for India’s long-term middle-order slot.
