Table-topper DC crushes RCB by 9 wickets

Delhi Capitals Women snapped their losing streak with a hard-fought victory against Royal Challengers Bengaluru Women in the Women’s Premier League. The win narrows the tournament standings, with Delhi Capitals remaining in the playoff mix and RCB experiencing their third successive home loss at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Batting first, RCB struggled early as Smriti Mandhana was dismissed for just 8, edging a wide delivery from Shikha Pandey to Lanning. Wyatt-Hodge showed promise with a quick 21 but was dismissed after the timeout, edging behind to Sarah Bryce. The struggles continued as Ellyse Perry, after scoring a crucial 50, was dismissed attempting a hard drive, while Kanika Ahuja’s lofted shot was caught at mid-off. Richa Ghosh and Raghvi Bist attempted to rebuild, with Bist hitting two sixes, but a mix-up led to her being run out at a crucial moment. RCB struggled to 142/9 in 20 overs, a score that appeared subpar.

The Delhi Capitals’ bowlers executed their strategies well, with Nallapureddy Charani taking key wickets, including Raghvi Bist and Richa Ghosh. Kashvee Gautam’s precise yorker bowled out Ghosh, and Jonassen and Kapp kept it tight during the middle overs.

Delhi Capitals calmly chased down the target. Despite losing Kim Garth for 14, Shafali Verma and Meg Lanning guided Delhi Capitals to victory with solid batting performances. Verma anchored the innings effectively, ensuring Delhi Capitals reached the target comfortably without any late drama. Lanning played a supporting role, rotating the strike nicely and hitting loose balls hard.

This win gives Delhi Capitals’ playoff chances a new lease of life, while RCB has to sort out their perennial problems. RCB must regroup with their playoff chances hanging by a thread. The tournament action resumes as Delhi Capitals are set to take on Mumbai Indians in another do-or-die encounter, with playoff positions hanging in the balance.
