Tata IPL 2025 set to begin on March 23, says BCCI

The much-awaited Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is officially set to begin on March 23, 2025, as announced by Rajeev Shukla, Vice President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Shukla revealed the tournament’s start date while addressing the media during the BCCI Special General Meeting in Mumbai on Sunday, January 12.

This year promises another thrilling edition of high-octane cricket action. With excitement building across the country, fans are eager to witness the fierce competition as their favorite teams battle for supremacy. As the countdown begins, the announcement has sparked anticipation for what could be one of the most memorable seasons in IPL history, with top players from around the world set to light up the stadiums.

The 2025 season will consist of 74 matches, maintaining the same format as the previous three seasons. However, this year will feature 10 fewer matches than the 84 initially outlined in the IPL’s 2022 media rights tender for the 2023-27 cycle. According to the tender, the number of matches will vary across the seasons between 2023 and 2027: 74 games for the first two years, 84 games for 2025 and 2026, and up to 94 matches in 2027.

As is tradition, the home venue of the defending champions will host both the opener and the final match. Eden Gardens, the home ground of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), who won IPL 2024, will serve as the venue.
Reports indicate that the full schedule for IPL 2025 will be announced later this month.
